Promoting STEM careers is absolutely critical to ensure that we inspire the next generation and protect the future of our industry, as we are still suffering from a shortage of engineers in the UK at all level and disciplines.
To help address this issue in the Gloucestershire area, Nicole Saunders, Senior Consultant at Osprey has been actively involved in establishing the Gloucestershire STEM Network, whose mission is to provide a local STEM network that supports women, from classroom to boardroom, and is itself supported by local organisations to underpin STEM excellence through the region. The network will bring experts together and address themes around workforce engagement and skills, building a shared platform for STEM professionals at every stage of their career.
Alongside Osprey, a number of other organisations in the Gloucestershire/M5 corridor are already involved including companies, universities, and national and international professional institutions.
The network will officially launch on Friday 23rd June at an event in Cheltenham hosted by Spirax Sarco and supported by The University of Gloucestershire. This date was specifically chosen to coincide with ‘International Women in Engineering Day’.
The launch event is an opportunity to hear from inspirational leaders in the STEM field, including Nicole Saunders who will be taking part in an interactive panel discussion to share her story and provide a unique insight on what it really means to work in a STEM environment in the aviation industry.
New members are actively encouraged to join the network to help address forecast trends in STEM, and to deliver a stable and inspired regional expertise that will help Gloucestershire to thrive.
