As part of #NetZeroWeek2021, we’re celebrating 15 years of enabling projects for the renewables industry.
Osprey is firmly established in the renewable energy sector having built a reputation for excellence in assessing and mitigating the impact of wind turbines on aviation receptors. We are currently one of the UK’s leading consultancies in supporting the consenting process, but we are also known for providing elegant airspace, procedural, technical and safety engineering solutions to the aviation issues that typically form the basis of offshore wind farm planning conditions.
Our long-standing working relationships with key aviation stakeholders such as the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and NATS, as well as the UK Civil Aviation Authority enable our successful approach to understanding, consulting and addressing aviation objections during the consenting phase.
To date, Osprey has assisted over 950 wind farms to address their issues on aviation. One of our most recent success stories is our proud association with the Neart na Gaoithe project team to achieve major aviation-related milestones in developing the airspace solution to enable their offshore wind development project to move forward without an aviation based objection.
Evolving our services to meet ambitious Government targets
The UK Government has committed to a 10-point plan for combating climate change and has set out ambitious new targets for the renewables industry which must step up to the challenge of meeting offshore wind capacity of 40 gigawatts (GW), up from 30 GW as part of a balanced energy mix to power the UK’s green economic recovery.
To assist our clients in meeting these targets, we’re helping to solve many engineering and operational challenges by providing advice and support on how to use aviation positively in their wind projects to enable safe and efficient operations. Our services include: assessment for the safe operation of offshore helicopter operational support, assessment of offshore helicopter refuelling activities, changes to airspace requirements, radar impact, line of sight, procurement services for wind farm mitigation, assessment on how developments may impact Instrument Flight Procedures, the management of drones for inspection purposes and charging stations for drones and unmanned aircraft systems. We can therefore offer every project with a unique level of end-to-end aviation support.
Hydrogen Solutions – The Wonder Fuel
Our consultants regularly work with a range of wind farm developers and regional airports in the management of the impact of wind energy on aviation systems and now with our parent company tpgroup, we have the engineering capability to advise and provide hydrogen solutions for energy storage and provide digital solutions for wind farm planning and logistics.
The Future
Wind power is set to grow significantly over the next decade and Osprey has a key role to play in developing solutions that will allow aviation and wind to co-exist positively to allow projects to move forward at pace. Osprey is fully committed to working towards net zero carbon emissions with the help of new technologies and renewable fuels to create a greener future for us all.
