Osprey Consulting Services’ Rob Jackson Appointed Vice-Chair of CAA’s Hydrogen Propulsion Systems Working Group
We are thrilled to announce that Rob Jackson, Principal Consultant for our PAAS Practice at Osprey Consulting Services, has been appointed as the Vice-Chair of the Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) Hydrogen Propulsion Systems Working Group. Rob will be supporting Panagiotis Loukinas, the Chair of the Working Group as they look at developing Policy Recommendations around the use of Liquid Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in propulsion systems and gain greater understanding of the Entry into Service expectations from Industry partners as part of the process. By contributing his expertise Rob is keen to help drive forward the technological advancements needed to achieve sustainable aviation.
The CAA’s Hydrogen Challenge aims to foster collaboration between industry and academia to enhance the understanding of hydrogen-related risks in aviation, identify regulatory and policy gaps, and propose new recommendations to develop net-zero regulations and policies. The challenge is divided into three key areas:
- H2Wo(1) Hydrogen Propulsion Systems: This group focuses on hydrogen combustion, hydrogen electric, and hydrogen fuel systems.
- H2Wo(2) Hydrogen Aircraft Safety & Certification: This group works on developing standards and guidance, special conditions, and human factors/flight operations to ensure the safe certification of hydrogen-powered aircraft.
- H2Wo(3) Aerodromes and Airports: This group addresses the infrastructure, fueling/de-fueling processes, and airport safety measures necessary to support hydrogen-powered aviation.
The intent of the Hydrogen Challenge is to collaborate with industry and academia to improve the understanding of hydrogen-related risks in aviation, identify gaps in regulations and policies, and propose new recommendations to develop net-zero regulations and policies.
“I am very much looking forward to contributing towards the work of the Group and being part of this exciting phase of Hydrogen development.” Comments Rob.
