Osprey welcomes Ross Smillie

Scroll

We are delighted to welcome Ross Smillie to Osprey as a Systems Analyst in our Airports & Airspace Team. Ross joins us from Coventry University where he recently graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Aviation Management.

Having completed a number of work experience placements, Ross has gained a wealth of industry experience at NATS, DAS Aviation Solutions Limited and Glasgow Airport Limited. During his placement at NATS, he supported change delivery and management on a key project to introduce Space-based ADS-B surveillance and reduced separation standards in North Atlantic Airspace. Furthermore, Ross was appointed as the Project Manager for the implementation of new Controller Working Positions into the Upper Airspace operation to cope with increased traffic levels expected during the summer peaks. Following this, Ross assisted in the production of safety cases and hazard analysis for the second deployment of space-based ADS-B.

On his return to university, Ross completed his dissertation entitled ‘Integrated Air Traffic Services using Remote Tower Operations’ focusing on the human factors element of providing combined ATC positions from a remote tower centre.

Initially, Ross will follow Osprey’s graduate development programme which provides unique insights into both civil and defence aviation markets.

Lindsay Perks, Airports & Airspace Team Leader said “A very warm welcome to the team, Ross! Supported by our graduate programme, Ross will take charge of his own development and make an active contribution to our experienced and technically excellent team. He will build on the excellent foundation of aviation and Air Traffic Management (ATM) knowledge and skills gained through his industry placements. Ross is already a passionate example of the new talent entering our industry ready to meet the challenges we face.”

Ross is fully up and running in his home office and has started to meet the Osprey team through our virtual induction process. He will be based at our Bristol office once the current social distancing measures are reduced.
