Osprey to support DE&S Safety Day at Abbey Wood

Scroll

Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) will hold its inaugural Safety Day on 28th October 2015 across all of its main sites. The date was specifically chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the Haddon-Cave Report into the loss of the Nimrod XV230.

The focus of the event will be to demonstrate DE&S’s commitment to safety at all levels throughout the organisation, to promote its safety culture and to emphasise key safety messages.

As part of the programme, DE&S has invited key industry partners, including Osprey to contribute to the day through a series of presentations and exhibitions all geared towards sharing best practice and lessons learned in the safety arena.

Osprey has chosen a theme dedicated to ‘Software Safety’. Our exhibition stand will feature a visual presentation on ‘Software Safety: A Crash Course’ which includes some interesting case studies as well as advice and tips. There will also be a practical ‘hands-on’ activity of programming a robot and demonstrating software fallibilities.

Meanwhile, as part of the main conference sessions, Mike Spencer (Director – Engineering) and Nick Durston (Senior Consultant) will present their paper on ‘Autonomy lessons learned from the aerospace industry pertinent to the automotive industry’.

Pete Symons, Principal Consultant at Osprey said “Safety is at the heart of everything we do at Osprey. We’re really pleased to be taking part in this initiative as ultimately it will help to develop long-term safety values and behaviours right across the DE&S organisation”.

Osprey currently works with a number of DE&S clients in the provision of safety engineering, airworthiness and operational support. This includes airworthiness and safety support to air platforms, aerospace battle management and command and control systems to the development of methodologies to use resources more efficiently and safely such as Airspace Change Procedures (ACP) for RAF Brize Norton.
