Osprey are highly experienced in working with the client to define capability-driven solutions, capturing the operational, regulatory and system requirements all the way through the systems engineering lifecycle in both the civil and military sectors – whether it be Air, Land, Sea or Space.  Our systems engineering approach is based on proven methods and industry good practice (ISO15288), allied with close customer and stakeholder interactions. We pride ourselves on an open delivery with our clients, so they are informed throughout the project, enabling decision makers with the latest information.

Requirements Capture & Demonstration

We understand the importance of capturing, assessing, managing and prioritizing requirements from concept through to delivery, and eventual equipment disposal.  Thus, working with the client we will ensuring the new equipment, procedure or service fully meets the business/operational need, it can be implemented, trained for and maintained effectively and within budget.

We can support you in the following areas:

  • Development of fit-for-purpose technical and operational User Requirements and System Requirements Documents in accordance with the business/operational need across both the military and civil sectors
  • Defining requirements that address all relevant national and international regulatory requirements
  • Managing and mapping of the User and System Requirements to ensure appropriate validation and verification coverage and attainment
  • Development and management of integrated test, evaluation and acceptance plans – assuring the new capability/service meets the defined User and System Requirements, and how that can be achieved

Trials Development & Management

Trials are a key part of the Verification and Validation of any system. However, they are potentially expensive and time-consuming activities and need to be carefully planned, designed and conducted to maximise the test coverage and cost-benefit. A poorly conceived or implemented trial could potentially deliver results that add no value to a programme, but at a significant cost.

We will identify and define the most appropriate and cost-effective trial activities at the beginning of a project, compiling an Integrated Test and Evaluation Plan that identifies how a capability or service is expected to meet the requirements.

At Osprey, our team has extensive experience in the specification, design, management, and analysis of trials and can use this capability to good effect to meet your needs and requirements.

Teledyne Reynolds

At short notice Osprey picked up and delivered, to the CAA, an extremely well researched piece of UAS analysis with a number of recommendations that we can take forward into delivery. The work is high risk and will inform political decision making in the UK and set a precedent across the world. The work they have delivered to date has met the agreed scope and quality. They have delivered to the timeframe and within the cost agreed without the need to direct or oversee the detail, which was extremely important especially when one of the reasons for the commercial arrangement with Osprey was due to internal resource constraints. The review and report they have completed will feed directly into UK Government policy as well as influence European and International policy direction for RPAS.

Civil Aviation Authority

To help find an acceptable interim mitigation for a proposed Wind Farm, LSA approached Osprey as recognised leaders in Wind Turbine Mitigation methods. As part of their remit Osprey reviewed the potential capabilities of the local radar as well as other mitigation technologies in relation to the anticipated turbine effects and our Operational Requirement. Based on their assessment of the available solutions, the local airspace environment and the demanding project timescales, the use of a Non Automatic Initiation Zone (NAIZ) was proposed.

Osprey subsequently developed the Radar Sensor Safety Case to include the NAIZ and supported LSA through the subsequent discussions with CAA SARG. As a result of these discussions the NAIZ was accepted into operational service prior to turbine operation.

The solution has subsequently worked well and has proven itself to be the right decision for the mitigation of the Wind Farm.

I would readily recommend Osprey to any ANSP seeking supportive and informed assistance in establishing mitigation of Wind Turbines on Approach Radars.
