Business Need
Osprey has been contracted by a UK MOD ISTAR Delivery Team to provide an Independent Safety Auditor who performs a variety of safety roles within the team, supporting the Safety Manager, individual projects and senior management. The role encompasses an Independent Safety Audit (ISA) on high-risk, high-value, novel or complex projects, safety advice to numerous other projects and on-going support and maintenance of the DT’s safety and environmental management system. In addition, they required a Subject Matter Expert that participated actively in safety meetings, provided support to external safety audits and the provision of induction briefs to new staff.
Our Role
Osprey provided a highly experienced and competent main ISA, supported by a team of other highly competent and Suitably Qualified & Experienced Personnel (SQEP) Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) managed by an experienced project and task manager. Its routine business consisted of applying safety management and safety audit across multiple domains, on systems ranging from simple commercial off-the-shelf equipment up to large fixed and deployed computer networks, safety critical systems and platform integration in accordance with associated regulations. In addition, Osprey staff have applied detailed knowledge and experience of the legal and safety regulatory framework in the support of both routine and urgent operational requirements for a range of projects covering land, air, maritime, Intelligence Surveillance Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) and Information Systems and Services (ISS).
The Outcome
Overall, the support provided to the Safety Manager has proven invaluable, particularly through an extended period of staff shortage in this extremely busy and high profile DT. The ISA involvement on numerous safety critical projects has resulted in significant improvements to the safety management and system-level safety documentation across a wide range of high value, high risk programmes and projects, as well as ensuring that the various systems are safe through detailed audits of the underlying safe system documentation.
